Missouri River (ND Lower Portion) - Tuesday, May 15, 2012
Had boats out on the Missouri river south of Bismarck both Saturday and Sunday with some good limits getting caught. The fish seem to be really spread out now with good action from north of Bismarck to a few miles south of town. One group that was out reported very good success pulling crankbaits in that 8 to 12 foot range while another boat did well north of town pitching jigs with gulp or minnows. The fish seem to be getting a little more aggressive with each day that passes and should continue to improve.

Lake Oahe (North Dakota) - Friday, May 11, 2012
Had a guide on the water today fishing in a little local fishing tournament which was held on the Missouri River South of Bismarck. He did a great job finishing second with another impressive weight of 18.4lbs for 6 fish. The action was pretty fast with most of his fish caught on a jig with gulp in 5 to 9 feet of water. If you like catching fish on jigs this is the time of year to get out there, it should remain good for a few more weeks.

Missouri River (ND Lower Portion) - Thursday, May 10, 2012
Had a group out yesterday and today on the Missouri River near Bismarck. Yesterday we had a good bite going on crankbaits in 6 to 10 feet of water, it doesn't seem to matter which cranks but I use mostly rapalas. Today was a completely different situation as they didn't seem to like the cranks as much and a jig and a minnow was the ticket. The key is to stay versatile and change it up until you find what the fish want. Overall not as many big fish getting caught right now as I think the spawn still has them off a bit, but I expect the action to heat up soon. Overall a couple of great days on the water with some beautiful weather, great fishing, and some good company in the boat!
Check out the photo gallery for some of the action from the last couple days. If you are interested in fishing the Missouri River or Lake Oahe check out lakeoaheguides.com and give Brian a call. |
